Ok so just so everyone knows...this isn't a band fanfic. We just made up guys based off of different people from different bands. Big Grin Written by me and Sierra :]

Chapter One

“Why can’t I be more like you, Sophia?” I asked as we walked away from the baseball diamond made up of trashcans and all sorts of junk.

“What are you talking about?” Sophia laughed.

“Why can’t people say to me ‘Strike this loser out Sophia!’ or ‘Hit a Home Run!’? Every time it’s my turn to bat, everyone groans.” I said, pouting at the end of my sob story to add “dramatic effect”.

“You just need more practice. I promise we’ll work on it more. Besides, why would you want to be like me? You’re smart and are probably going to be more successful then I will ever be. All I got is ‘spunk’ as my dad puts it.” Sophia said. It seems like everyone wants to be what they’re not. People with curly hair want straight hair. People with straight hair want curly hair. People like me want to be like Sophia. People like Sophia want to be like me.

“Well…maybe since you’re going to help me with baseball…I could tutor you or something.” I suggested. Sophia grinned at me.

“Really? That’d be great. But let’s stop talking about this now. My mom’s making Lasagna tonight…you wanna come over?” She asked.

“Ya sure.” I don’t even have to ask my parents if I can go to her house anymore. I practically live there. But it also helps living in the same apartment right next to your best friend.

Oh, you probably have a few questions, right?

Who am I? My name is Sarah. Brown hair, brown eyes… the usual. My best friend is Sophia, obviously. She’s the kind of person I want to be. Outgoing, funny, athletic, charismatic and so many other things to list. We live in the poor part of NYC, but we’re proud. We’re small but mighty. It’s the kind of neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. Usually after school, all of our friends make up a baseball diamond in the middle of the road and we play there for hours on end. But it was the last day of school and summers meant Central Park and the Café for Sophia and me. Sophia and I have lived in the same apartment ever since I moved here in second grade. Everyday is the same, everyone is the same, and everything is the same. It’s normal here in NYC.

I pulled out the key to my family’s apartment nobody was home right now, they always get home around nine at night on Fridays. I threw some crap in my bag and wrote my parents a note so they knew where I was if they were looking. I headed over to Sophia’s, fifteen steps down the hall and I was there, I let myself in.

“Hi Sarah.” Her mom sweetly smiled.

“Hello.” I greeted her back and went back into Sophia’s room and tackled her.

“Duddddeee look what you did.” She glanced at me once we got up.

“What!?” I sighed hoping I didn’t break anything to valuable.

“You pushed me on the ground.” She laughed, I gave her a shove then her mom called us for dinner.

xXxXx

“How was your last day in school?” her mom asked us halfway through dinner.

“Uhhh, it was good.” Sophia said but it wasn’t so sure, and her dad immediately noticed and asked the question that killed her.

"How are your grades." he asked seriously.

“Fine.”

“Are you sure?” he asked giving me a glare, like I would tell him.

“Eh, no. They’re the same as usual, I passed that’s all that matters.” She smirked.

“Sophia! You need to work a lot harder or you’re gonna make us restrict things.” Her dad told her, getting angry.

“Seriously, I don’t need grades. I don’t even need any of that when I get older. I only need my music and art and that’s what I get great grades in! The sports are great for me too, if I got graded I would do awesome.” she argued back.

“No, you’re getting grounded next year for anything under a “C” next year. When I say grounded, I mean you will be grounded from everything and everyone till they are at least a “C” average.” Her dad finished the conversation and didn’t say anything else even though Sophia tried to get it out of him.

xXxXxXx

“I’m still mad at my dad.” Sophia told me while walking to the park.

“I think he’s right, you need to work a harder on your grades but he shouldn’t ground you because he knows you struggle with school and most of it’s not your fault.” I told her then I looked up at the hot dog stand on the side of the street.

“Yeah, that’s true.” She grinned and her eyes met with the hot dog stand too. “I’m hungry.” She mumbled and started walking towards it.

“You have money?” she asked me.

“Yes…” I said starting to dig in my handbag.

“Two hot dogs please.” She said to the guy.

“Here you go, three dollars please.”

“Fuckkkk!” I shouted, I got an ugly look from a mom and a kid walking by, I almost stuck out my tongue at them but I didn’t.

“What?” Sophia laughed at me.

“No money!” I yelled, Sophia went to hand the hot dogs back then a guy stepped in front of her.

“Uhm, can I have a hot dog and I’ll pay for theirs.” He smiled and gave me a nod; we thanked him and happily walked away.

“We got wayyy lucky!” I laughed munching on the hot dog.

“Why don’t you have money, I’m thirsty.” She said completely ignoring my point out, like she does.

“Dude, money doesn’t grow on trees.” I told her and she laughed. “And yeah, we did get lucky. That guy was awesome; we should have given him a hug or something.” I smirked finishing up my food.

“Park!” we both yelled running into the park like the little kid brains we had in our grown up teenage bodies.

Chapter 3

The best part of summer is definitely the park. The park has always been the place where Sarah and me go to if we need to talk about something, cry about something or just relax and have fun with life. The first time my dad yelled at me about my grades and ‘What I planned to do with my life’, I ran next door to Sarah’s and told her to meet me at the park. After talking there, I felt so much better. When Sarah’s dog died, we both ran here and I just let her cry for hours and hours. Today, we were at the park just to be kids. I mean, it was the first day of summer.

“You know, my cousin’s having a party tonight.” I said while Sarah and I were on the teeter-totter.

“Which cousin? The one that was arrested for murder or the one that’s 21, a musician and really cool?” She asked. For a smart person, Sarah could be really dumb.

“Oh well obviously the one that is arrested.” I smirked. Sarah rolled her eyes.

“Don’t get smart with me.” She pointed her finger threateningly.

“That’s my job though! Anyway, you want to go?” I asked, as I was in mid-air.

“I don’t know. Aren’t there older people and drinking…and other gross stuff that 15 and 16 year olds aren’t supposed to see?” She asked. I stopped the teeter-totter as I hit the ground.

“Come on Sarah! Just one night, let’s live a little.” I begged. I’m not one to beg, but this called for some begging.

“I don’t know…” Sarah said, avoiding eye contact with me.

“Please?” I said giving her my best puppy dog look. She hesitantly looked at my face and laughed.

“All right, but you owe me big time.” She smiled. I jumped up from my seat, ran over to Sarah and hugged her.

“This is going to be so exciting, but we need to be smart. There are some creepy people out there, especially the ones above the age of 18.”

~~

“I-I can’t do this Soph.” Sarah said pulling her coat over herself.

“Come on! You look beautiful! Just remember…stick together ok?” I said slowly as if Sarah was a small kindergartner. She nodded her head and I pulled her up the steps to the big black front door. I knocked once and waited five seconds before my cousin answered the door.

“Soph!” He grinned as I pulled him into a big bear hug.

“Tony, you don’t mind us coming to this party right?” I asked.

“Oh ya it’s totally cool. Come on in.” He led the two of us into the dark building with bright dance lights, a “punch” table, smoke from the numerous joints from the people sitting on the couches, and a great live band.
