Chapter 4 - Part Two

When I walked into the house, Yvette was on the couch in the living room reading a book, To Kill A Mockingbird. She looked up as I walked in. “Back so soon?” Yvette asked. I nodded.

“You hungry? I can cook us an early dinner if you’d like.” Yvette said.

“Nah, not yet. Caleb and I had lunch around 2.” I replied.

“Well let me know when you’re hungry.” Yvette said, returning to her book.

“Okay.” I said, walking up the stairs.

I tossed my keys on my desk and got my iPhone from out of my clutch before putting it back in a drawer in my closet. There was one new voicemail from Sam, probably from when I was at Caleb’s house.

“Gee, thanks for calling Meredith back about plans for tomorrow Tiffany.” Sam said before bursting out in laughter. “No, I’m kidding. Taylor and Meredith are over at my house because we knew you’d probably make plans for today with Caleb.” Sam said. I heard kissy noises in the background. I rolled my eyes. “But just call me back when you get this message okay? K love you. Bye.”

I ended my call to voicemail and then dialed Sam. She picked up after the first ring.

“Hey you!” Sam said, greeting me. I heard Meredith and Taylor shout hi in the background.

“Hey you guys.” I said, smiling.

“So you didn’t make plans tomorrow right?” Sam asked.

“You said not to, so I didn’t.” I replied.

“Okey dokey, that’s good.” Sam said. “So was I right? Did you have plans with Caleb?”

I rolled my eyes. “Yes, I did. I just got home.”

“Ohh.” Sam replied.

There was a bit of an awkward silence. “Hey Sam, I think I’m gonna go shower. So I’ll talk to you later or something. If not, I’ll see you tomorrow.” I said.

“K, byeeee.” Sam said before hanging up.

I sighed and set my iPhone down on my nightstand before walking over to the closet. I grabbed a pair of black and white interlock running shorts and a white v-neck t-shirt and headed off to my bathroom.

lol oh, i meant to kill a mockingbird. this is what happens when you try to think about two things at once. you see, i was thinking, "hey, how do you make a duct tape wallet?" like randomly while typing to kill a mockingbird and uh...yeah.

Chapter Four - Part Three

About an hour and a half later I got out, it was about 5:45 pm. I decided I wasn’t really hungry, but would eat something anyway.

Walking down the stairs, I didn’t see Yvette on the couch anymore. I walked around the house calling her name but never got a response. I concluded that she was probably in her room as I walked back up the stairs to her room.

I knocked. “Yvette, are you there?” I asked.

“Yep. Need anything sweetie?” Yvette replied.

“Can we have dinner? Not too much for me though, I’m not too hungry.” I said.

“Alright. I’ll let you know when dinner’s ready.” Yvette said.

I walked back to my room and sat down at my desk, opening up Breaking Dawn. For some reason, it was bookmarked at a different spot. I remember for sure that I read further than this. I flipped to the front of the book to see if Taylor’s name or mine was on it. Sure enough, it was Taylor’s.

Annoyed, I walked over to my nightstand to call Taylor. “Hello?” Taylor answered.

“Taytay, you have my copy of Breaking Dawn.” I said.

“No I don’t.” Taylor replied, sounding confused.

I sighed. “Flip to the front of the book, does it say my name?”

“Oh hey, it does!” Taylor exclaimed.

I wanted to laugh, but I sighed again. “Didn’t it occur to you that the page wasn’t where you left off?”

“That did seem odd when I opened it.” Taylor admitted, giggling.

I rolled my eyes. “Oh Taytay.” I said, laughing. “Just bring it tomorrow when you come over k?”

“K.” Taylor replied.

“I’ll talk to you later, byeee.” I said before hanging up.

Before returning to my desk, I set down my iPhone on my nightstand. Once I sat down, I flipped past Taylor’s bookmark to where I left off. I read about 10 pages before my mind started wandering.

What would it be like being a vampire? That’d be nice, to be extremely pretty. I wouldn’t wanna drink blood though, animal or human. Though I suppose that’s one price to pay. Can’t imagine not sleeping either. It’s not like I’m bored enough already even with sleep. God, imagine how much more boring my life would be without sleep. Although, I suppose I could make use of that time to learn a lot, like Edward did. Maybe learn Mandarin or learn how to fly a plane.

Yvette’s voice brought me back to the real world. “Dinner’s ready.”

I walked down stairs and joined Yvette at the table. I ate in silence, my mind was in other places today. “Something wrong?” Yvette asked.

“Not really. I was just thinking.” I replied.

“Oh? About?” Yvette asked.

“Just about Mom and Dad. Y’know, like how they’re always gone because of their business trips.” I replied, finishing the last bit of my food. Yvette frowned but didn’t say anything more about the subject.

“Thanks for dinner Yvette.” I said, getting up to go to my room. She just nodded as I got up.
