Prolouge - Cold and Lonely
The moon shone brightly down on the sidewalk. Every step she took was painful. She had just been released from the hospital after a terrible car accident. Ever since she had run away from home, her life had been even more terrible. She felt as if she was always being watched, and everywhere she turned danger lurcked. She sighed. 'Why can't life just be good? Why does everything always happen to me?' She decided to stop at a diner that was close by and see if they would give her a free, hot meal. The bright lights made her squint and feel faint. She made her way to a booth and set her head down. She was exhausted. Shortly after she had hitchiked with a man, the man had fallen asleep at the wheel and ran off the road. She had managed to limp to a hospital, get treated, and then been quickly released. She felt a presence near here and looked up, expecting the waitress. Instead, a young boy about her age was standing there, a sad look in his chocolate-brown eyes. "Um, can I help you?" she asked. He just kept staring at her. After a while he said, "Do you want to stay the night at my house?" She seemed startled by the question. For all she knew, he could be a pedophile that preyed on innocent people and then killed them for his pleasure. She ignored him and put her head back down. She didn't need him.
