*CHAPTERONE*

~~~~~~~An early flight from Helsinki, Finland to Oslo, Norway has been caught in a huge amount of turbulence. It has been blown far off course, and is about to crash land, in the far northern regions of Finland~~~~~~

*CHAPTERTWO*

Ryan is in pain. He has never been in so much pain. Nothing that anyone had done to him before could’ve prepared him for this. And cold...so cold. The world spins as he stands up. He stumbles and reaches out to grasp metal near him. But it is super hot and he cannot hold onto it. He yells, and falls forward, face first into the soot blackened snow.

All of this the Hunter sees. It intrigues her, so she watches further.

Ryan stands up, his strength very slowly returning to him. He coughs on the black smoke, and walks unsteadily away from the wreckage;

Towards the copse of trees where the hunter watches. But she does not worry. She can hide herself perfectly, so she watches and waits again.

Ryan meanders weakly towards the copse of trees. After a while he reaches the fringes of the trees.
Ryan sits down, underneath a green fir tree. He is weak and shaking, but he knows not to sleep. His eyelids droop, but he fights to stay awake.

The Hunter feels Ryan’s strength wane. She fortifies him, determined to keep him alive. Dead prey gives no sport.

For some reason, Ryan feels stronger. He stands up again, and walks towards the gently smoking wreckage. Now that he is stronger, he can look for his friends, he thinks.

As he nears the wreckage, a figure lunges at him through the smoke.

**CHAPTERTHREE**

Ryan catches hold of Brendon, pulling his younger friend close, “Shush,” he says, “hush Bren it’s okay,” for the other boy was crying. Ryan pulls Brendon towards the trees and sets him down. He warns Brendon not to fall asleep, and then returns to the wreckage to look for more survivors.

The hunter hisses in delight; there are more of them! This will please the elders. She fortifies Brendon, and watches as he lifts his head, and shakes it. She smiles. The boy Ryan returns, looking horrified. With him is another boy, and the two of them are supporting another.

Jon, and Spencer... The hunter has never been more excited. She eyes the four boys who are resting underneath the fir tree. She sends them energy, which slowly begins to heal their wounds. Then she turns and flies towards the Hub of the World, to inform her Elders of the New Prey

Ryan looks at the others, “We’re the only ones left,” he says, “They’re all dead... that girl, she was burned, I...”

Brendon hugs Ryan, Spencer lowers his head. Jon looks around, and says “where are we?”

The realisation hits all four. They are lost, lost in the blinding whiteness of the tundra.
And they have no way out.

This is the conclusion the Hunter had reached. The smile does not leave her face as she heads north.

**CHAPTERFOUR**

The Council of Elders are pleased with her report. They commend the hunter and promise her a spot on the hunter. Meanwhile, they send three of the most perverse Hunters to the copse of fir trees, to lead the boys towards the Hub.

These hunters are strong and powerful. Each works in a different way. They draw bones to decide who shall force the humans up the first stage of the hub.

The one called Anthrax wins. She is a perfect fear-forcer. She could scare even the bravest. She sets off towards the fir trees to the south.

Meanwhile, the boys, perfectly recovered, are debating what to do. They wonder if they should stay in the fir trees or walk and try to find a village. There is also the problem of food.

They talk and talk into the night, in the small wood. The wood is bizarrely warm and safe, and the smoke strangely doesn’t reach them. They do not consider why this is.

But the magic of the Hunters keeps them safe. Until Anthrax arrives.
Until the hunt begins...
