Chapter 3

Now that I’d forced myself to admit it, I no longer desperately tried to avoid Brendon. In fact, I really quite liked the feeling I got in my stomach whenever he was around. Obviously I couldn’t talk to him, I mean, if I was caught conversing with BRENDON my popularity would go to pot! So I guess you could call me his secret admirer. I never spoke to him again until the following week, when I was walking home from school. I walked out of the front doors of the school and made my way down the steps. I didn’t live far away, and the walk home by myself always gave me a chance to think, always about Brendon. I got out my cell and started texting my mum, to say I’d be home in about a half hour, when someone knocked into me and my cell went flying. I looked up, ready to demand a new one if that one was damaged. But words evaded me when I saw it was Brendon. He bent down and picked up my phone, somehow, there wasn’t even a scratch. Regaining the use of my voice box, I tried to break the ice. This was my perfect opportunity to talk to him. There was no one else around, we were alone.
“We gotta stop meeting like this!” I laughed nervously as he handed me my cell.
“Yeah, I’m err... really sorry about that.” He replied. He was nervous around me, but who could blame him? I was the typical queen bee of Westmount high. Regina George’s double. But I knew myself that I didn’t want to be that. I wanted to be me, Kiara. And I wanted Brendon to see that.
“So where are you headed...Brendon?” I asked, trying to keep conversation going.
“Well I just had to go back to get my calculus book, and then I’m going home, what about you?” He replied, seemingly gaining confidence.
“I’m on my way home...” I answered.
“Where about do you live?”
“142 James Street.”
“Well, I was just thinking, if you don’t mind, I could walk you home. Only if you want to though, ‘cos you know, your house is on my way home…?” He stuttered.
My heart gave a little flip and I’m sure my eyes lit up, “Yeah that would be lovely, thanks.” I tried to play it cool when I was screaming on the inside!
“Awesome, do you want to just wait here while I get my book?”
“Sure” I smiled at him. He smiled back, and turned around and went back into school.


When he came back out I turned around to face him, “Ready?” I asked.
“Yeah” he smiled, and we started walking. The walk home usually takes about 30 minutes, but today it felt more like 30 seconds. Brendon and I talked and talked, about everything, music, books, school, just life in general. It was crazy to see how much we had in common. Our musical tastes were similar, but being the regular popular princess, I had to pretend I liked all the chart music. It was nice to be totally honest and myself with someone. When we reached my street, Brendon suddenly asked me “Are you doing anything tomorrow?”
“No” I lied. I always had plans, but they could be cancelled if I could spend the day with Brendon.
“Well, would you like to, you know, hang out?”
“That would be wonderful Brendon” I grinned.
“Great, I’ll ring you in the morning. Can I err... have your cell number?”
“Sure thing.” Brendon got out his cell and saved my number.
We walked towards my house without saying a word. But when we were a couple of doors away, Brendon stopped.
“What’s up?” I asked
“Kiara… what will all your friends say if they find out you were hanging with me tomorrow?”
Shit. I never thought of that. “Do you really want the truth?”
“Please.”
“They’d probably dethrone me.”
“Oh.”
“Don’t worry! I don’t care!” I tried to reassure him. “Well, actually I do care.” I sighed; I figured I should be honest with him. I wanted to hang with him, but I didn’t want to lose my friends.
“I don’t mind, if you don’t want to be friends with me. I get it, your popular, I’m a dork. We don’t mix.”
“NO! I really would love to be your friend, but, it’s just…”
“I get it, don’t worry. But I’ve enjoyed your company today. Kiara, would you mind, if we could be like, secret friends?”
“Brendon, if that’s ok with you, that would be perfect.” He smiled at me as we continued walking towards my house. We stood at my door and he promised to ring in the morning. We hugged and he turned round and started walking back in the opposite direction. Turns out my house wasn’t really on his way home after all.

I love it!

Ummm...I'll give you my description now. My name is Angela. I am really outgoing and energetic. Sometimes I am a LITTLE shy. Just a tiny bit though when I first meet someone. I have dark auburn hair, brown eyes, contacts, I am 5'6". I am really good at playing guitar. I am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I love music. My faves bands are on the DecayDance/ Fueled By Ramen label. There are only a few that aren't. If you need anything else just let me know.
