Chapter 1



Lucy looked at her watch. Darn she

thought, I'm late for work.. Sighing,

she put on the warm faux fur coat her ex-boyfriend

had gotten her for her birthday, and slipped

outside. The air had a certain cheer when it

was near Christmas, and right now it was

December 20. 5 days left, and she hadn't done

any shopping. By now, the malls were crowded.

Really, really crowded. She would have to make

things, or do what she always did- Brave the

crowd. Ah, Well... she thought,

shrugging the matter away as she walked inside

the Swiss Chalet she worked at. Beth greeted

her with a frown. "Your late." she scolded.

"That's the fourth time this week! If your late

one more time this week...I-I'll fire you."

Lucy gasped. "You wouldn't! Not so close to

Christmas!" She protested, but Beth justsighed

and shook her head. "I guess I can't..." she

said, "But off to work!" Lucy nodded, and raced

into the staffroom to get ready. The empty

fireplace made the room cold and dark. Lucy

shivered, and lit it quickly. "Hey Luce, why

so late?" A voice asked, and Lucy turned to see

Darren, her older brother, who worked as a

chef. "Well, I was....sleeping..." Lucy

admitted quietly, but Darren just laughed, and

left the room. Lucy rolled her eyes, and tied

back her light brown hair.

Running back out, she went straight to the

nearest table. "Hi, may I take your order?"

she asked a group of strangely familiar boys.

"Uhh, sure," one of them said. He was pretty

cute. He whispered frantically to the guy next

to him. "Ryan, what do you WANT?", while the

man across from him cleared his throat and

smiled. "While they're deciding, my friend

Spencer and I will both have a coke" he said.

Spencer... She was POSITIVE she'd heard

the name before.

"And what drink would you like?" She asked the

other 2 again. The cute boy looked up. "Uhh,

just water please," while the other boy

shrugged and said,"Same...".

Lucy smiled. "Alright then!" she said, and

skipped off. Where HAD she seen them

before?


EDIT: Her boyfriend is now her ex-boyfriend. I don't want her to have one. Yet.
