Chapter 4

*Ryan’s pov*
“I HATE GYM” I told Jon as we unlocked our lockers in the locker room. He just laughed at me.
“It’s not THAT bad”
“Oh yeah that’s what the star soccer player says” He rolled his eyes.
“I just don’t like the fact that we have to have PE first thing in the morning” I said buttoning up my shirt.
“Yeah and then we smell bad all day. We’re like ‘Hey ladiessssss’” he said. He was shirtless and leaning up against the closed locker next to his. “And then all the girls smell us and die”
I started cracking up. “I. Don’t. Smell.” I said between laughs.
“Yeah you just smell like a freakin girl”
“It’s not my fault Secret Platinum was on sale!”
~later~
Second period English is definitely my favorite class; I walked in and sat in my assigned seat in the front row next to Riley.
“Good morning Ryan” Ms. Green-Hoff greeted me as she walked down the row giving a paper to another student.
Ms. Green-Hoff was a nice teacher; she was probably the youngest teacher I’ve had and definitely the prettiest. She had long red hair, with dark green eyes, and freckles, it’s very obvious she’s Irish. Today she was wearing a brick colored dress that had light brown polka dots on it. It looked like it was from the 50’s or something, I liked it though.
“Good Morning Ms. Green-Hoff” I greeted back smiling. She handed me back a test, it was a multiple choice grammar test. I smiled when I saw the 98% score circled at the top.
“What did you get?” Riley asked me. We always competed on who got the better scores and who could be more of a kiss-up.
“98, you?”
“Same” Usually I would tell her that I didn’t believe her but I actually felt good for her this time.
“Which one did you get wrong?”
“Uhhh” she said flipping through the papers. I noticed how pretty her hair looked when it fell on the sides of her face “27”
“Same” I lied I saw on the front page that I missed 6.
“I guess it was a hard one” she said shrugging.
“Yeah I guess” I said smiling.

*Brendon’s POV*
While I was walking to drama I noticed that Lily was walking not too far in front of me looking at class numbers. I looked her over, her grey knee socks kept falling down and she was struggling to keep them from doing that. I could see her biting her lip when she stopped to look at the class numbers, it was cute. Suddenly Spencer came up from behind me, I jumped in surprise.
“Were you just checking out the new girl?”
“What? No!” I could feel my cheeks growing hot.
“Uh-huh” he said going into his classroom unconvinced.
Once he was gone I decided to catch up with Lily.
“Hey, you lost?” I said shaking my head so my hair wasn’t in my face, she giggled.
“Yeah kinda, I have Drama next, Mr. Phillips said it’s around here, but I can’t find it”
“I have Drama next too, it’s right down here” I said leading her up a flight of stairs.
“Wow, if we keep this up we’ll have all our classes together” she said as I opened the door for her, the second time today, might I add.
“Well, that wouldn’t be half bad” I said smiling and sitting down in the plastic fold up chairs we used in the Theater room, she sat next to me blushing.
“GOOOOOD MORNING CLASS!” Mr. Shafalt roared. He has the biggest voice out of all the people I know. “TODAY WE HAVE A NEW STUDENT” he said looking down at his attendance sheet. “LILY? LILY ARE YOU HERE?”
“Um, yes Mr. Shafalt” she said quietly standing up.
“GOOD GOOD! EVERYONE GET INTO YOUR GROUPS AND CONTINUE PRACTICING YOUR ASSIGNED SCENES!” Everyone started talking and I got up to go to my group. “Now Lily you come here and I’ll assign you to a group” I watched her walk down to him and he started talking to her. I walked over to my group and started saying my lines goofily. Not long into our scene Lily walked over smiling at me.
“Hey, um Mr. Shafalt said I could be in this group” she said nervously
“Oh cool! This is Michael” I said pointing to a boy with blonde hair and braces, he smiled politely.
“I was in your other class, I’m Marley” Marley said interrupting me.
“Oh, nice to meet you” Lily said, I could tell she felt weird around her.
“Well we were just in the middle of the scene I’m assuming that Mr. Shafalt said you were going to be the director?” Marley asked in a snobby tone of voice.
“Yup”
“Okay, well then we’re just going to continue our scene” Marley said pushing me and Michael into our spots. I rolled my eyes at her and Lily smiled at me.
“Okay”
After we finished our scene I looked at Lily, “How’d we do?”
“You guys are really good!” she said excitedly
“We should be, it took Brendon and Michael forever to memorize they’re lines” Marley said
“Yeah, well it took YOU forever to get the movement right” I spat back at her. Michael groaned, Marley and I were always arguing.
“Well, I think it was worth it, because it was really, really good” Lily said smiling at me. I could tell she was going to be the peace maker in this drama group.

because it was really funny AND it involved 50% of shirtless panic

Chapter 5

*Lily’s POV*

“ALL RIGHT CLASS! TIMES UP! TOMORROW, THREE GROUPS WILL BE PERFORMING THEIR SCENES! STUDY YOUR LINES!”

“Does he always talk like that?” I asked trying to get my hearing back.

“He’s a director…I guess they are naturally loud.”

“I’d hate to hear him yell then!”

“Oh, it’s not so bad…you just loose your hearing for like a week.” I laughed. The 3rd period bell rang and my next class was PE.

“Hey Brendon? Where is the gym?”

“Oh it’s…down the stairs and then two rights. Go talk to Mr. Kelsler and I’m pretty sure he’ll let you wear loaners today.”

“Great thanks…does anyone I know take 3rd period PE?” I asked with hope.

“No…but unfortunately that snobby girl Shirley, who’s basically the leader of her group of friends, is in the class.”

“Oh…well I won’t let her bother me. See ya later Brendon!”

“See ya Lily!” We smiled at each other and I went on my way to the gym. I reached the gym doors and went inside to see a huge 30 year old man writing something on his clipboard. I figured he was the gym teacher so I walked up to him.

“Um Mr. Kelsler?” I questioned nervously.

“Yes?” He didn’t look up from his clipboard. Apparently there was something important on there.

“My name is Lily Grafford and I’m new here…so…”

“Oh yes Lily! I was just looking at my class attendance sheet and I saw your name. You will get your PE uniform in about 2 days but for now you can use the loaners.”

“Cool thanks….what locker number should I go to?”

“You can share with…Shirley Matthews. She’s number 185.”

“Alright.” I walked into the girl’s locker room and walked to the locker numbered 185 where there was a small blonde girl with bright blue eyes.

“Um, Hi I’m Lily!” I said trying not to get on this girl’s bad side.

“Hey…Oh you’re that new girl! I’m Shirley.” She stuck out her perfectly manicured hand. I shook it.

“Nice to meet you. Mr. Kelsler said we were sharing lockers.”

“Oh well that’s fine as long as you’re not one of those messy people.”

“Don’t worry I’m not…so where do I get the loaners?”

“Over in that basket over there…but they only have a large size.”

“Oh…well that’s ok…” I walked over to the smelly basket and pulled out a shirt that had the school name on it and navy blue sweat shorts. I got back to my locker and got out of my uniform and I pulled on the over sized uniform. I had to roll the shorts many times so they wouldn’t fall down. I pulled my hair into a pony tail and I decided I was ready for PE. The coach blew the whistle which caused all the girls to pile out of the locker room and go into the gym so I decided to follow.

~after PE~

“Lily, you’re so good at basketball!” Some random girl who was on my assigned team said to me.

“Thanks!” I walked into the locker room and walked over to my locker. I removed the hair band from my dark hair and let it fall onto my shoulders. I noticed that Shirley was staring at me.

“Hey you know…you’re really pretty.” I was taken aback at this comment.

“Uh..thanks.”

“I saw you hanging out with Riley Summers and her guy friends on the bus today.”

“Oh…ya they seem like fun people.”

“Ya that’s for sure…the seem like fun people.”

“W-what do you mean?”

“Listen, those people…well they’re really weird. I don’t think a girl like you should be friends with them. If you wanna make a good choice in friends, I suggest you hang out with me and my girls.” I looked at her in shock. I thought this girl was nice, but she is just like the girl Amy from my old school. Full of herself and trying to order people around.

“I think I can make my own choice in friends, but thanks for the offer!” I put my second shoe and walked away. She scoffed and immediately pulled out her friend, probably texting Marley telling her to exclude me from her group. I could care less, I know how to deal with those kind of people.

Chapter 6

*Riley’s POV*
I hate how the school building is designed. The office, auditorium, library, gym, and a couple class rooms are all on the first floor. (Well technically the gym was an add-on but it’s still on ground level) Then the rest of the classrooms are on the second floor. And lastly the cafeteria and all the lockers are on the third floor. It’s the biggest pain in the neck having to climb one or two stories just to get a book or pen.
Anyway it’s lunch, I just had French with Jon and Spencer and I’m at my locker getting my math and science books so I can go straight to gym after the end of lunch, when I feel hands covering my eyes. I smile and I know exactly who it is.
“Guess who!” Jon says.
“Mr. Philips!” I say as if Mr. Philips always covers my eyes and asks me who it is. Jon removes his hands and starts laughing that oh so familiar laugh. I turn around smiling.
“Hey” I say locking up my locker.
“Hi”
“I’m SO ready for lunch”
“I know Mondays are the worstttt” Jon ALWAYS complains about Mondays to me.
“Yup” I roll my eyes, the only thing I hate about Mondays is waking up at 7.
“I have band practice today after school”
“As you do every Monday”
“Well do you want to come?”
“No.” This happens every Monday, he asks me if I want to come to his band practice and I say no, then he asks why and I tell him because his band sucks and then he gets all mad at me.
“Why?”
“Because your band sucks”
“Last time you came it was in the beginning of 7th grade, we’ve improved a lot since then!” He’s never used that excuse before.
“So?” He stopped and stood in front of me with the puppy face.
“Please?” I sigh and try to avoid his gaze.
“I’ll go if Lily goes”
“Yay!” I smile and roll my eyes at my dork of a friend.

*Lily’s POV*
As I exit the gym I see Brendon looking kind of awkward leaning against the wall hallway all alone.
“Um hey” I say, he smiles at me, I just about melt.
“Oh I was waiting for you, I figured I could help you find your locker and show you the cafeteria, since its lunch.”
“Thanks. I didn’t know we had lockers though” I said as he led the way to where ever the lockers and cafeteria were.
“Yeah, they’re on the third floor with the cafeteria”
“Well I haven’t been on the third floor so that was probably why” I said laughing.
“Yeah, the layout of this school is kinda weird”
“I guess so”
“Hey um, I have a band and we’re practicing today after school. I was wondering do you wanna come?”
“Oh, sure, yeah that sounds fun.” I try to keep my cool, even though I feel like jumping around.
“Yeah Spencer and Jon and Ryan are in it too”
“What do you play?” I asked interested in what his answer was going to be.
“Vocals and guitar, but not lead guitar that’s Ryan”
“Oh”
Well, here we are” He said opening the door for me to a loud, crowded lunch room. I didn’t even realize we arrived until he opened the door for me. He’s just so cute and smart and nice and hottttt and interesting and PERFECT.
He led me to the table where he, Riley, Jon, Ryan, and Spencer all sat. I sat down on the right of Riley and Brendon sat in front of me and started talking about his band but I wasn’t really listening. I mean how could I? I just got lost in his big beautiful brown eyes and his luscious dark brown hair and every time he shook his head to get the hair out of his eyes I all but died.

*Ryan’s Pov*
I walked in the noisy cafeteria and looked for my table. Riley was sitting next to Lily and Brendon was sitting where I usually sat, in front of Lily. Jon was sitting in front of Riley and next to Brendon and Spencer was sitting next to Jon. So I guess I have to sit next to Riley but that’s ok.
“Hey” I said to Riley who wasn’t really in any conversation.
“Hey” she said quietly.
I looked at Brendon he was babbling on about our band to Lily who was just gazing at him, I could tell she wasn’t listening. I smiled and whispered to Riley “Look at Brendon and Lily they totally have a thing for each other.”
“Oh yeah I guess they do. Ha”
“Yeah…” I trailed off.
“So, I guess I’m going to your band practice today” Riley said eating a potato chip. I practically started choking.
“Are, are you okay?” She asked
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine” I said recovering from my sudden attack.
“Is it ok if I go home and change first?”
“Huh?”
“Before the practice, can I go home and change? I hate wearing this uniform”
“Oh yeah sure, we need time to get set up and stuff anyway”
“Ok cool”
“So where do you guys practice?” she asked
“Spencer’s grandma’s house”
“Oh yeah I remember where that is, she would always let us play there and I would make you and Spencer play dress up and have the tea parties with me” she said laughing.
“Oh yeah” I blushed. It made me remember how long we had known each other. Jeez I’m getting old.
“So I’ll meet you guys there at like quarter after 4?”
“Sounds good” I smiled to myself, that girl is starting to make me do that a lot.
