alright... so if any of you have read choke by chuck palahniuk then you will probably understand what im talking about.

i know that ryan has said that invisible monsters helped influence "time to dance" but when i read choke, i couldnt help but think of "build god, then we'll talk".

does anyone else think that choke may have influenced some parts in build god... or am i just crazy?

humm...never put the 2 together but i could see where you got that from...

for some reason i feel like i heard that 'build god...' came from a movie but hell...i can't say for sure if that's true..

but i could see 'choke' lighting a spark for that song...

hmm. ryan has never said anything about the two being related, but i know on the last board we were talking once about how somethings he may keep in his head and use to write his songs... i know that didnt make sense.. so

maybe he didnt think about choke when writing the song, but the ideas in the book were in the back of his head to begin with..

hmm. i dont think that made sense either..

i really suck at talking.

no, it made sense jennie.
and i remember that discussion..we were talking about Diary and how he had used the 'just for the record..' thing and that is in diary...she is always saying 'just for the record, the weather today is..' and then what the weather is..
but he had never mentioned it, so we figured he'd had it in the back of his mind but didn't intentionally mean for it to have anything from diary...

yeah.. i dont know.. i was talking about it with my friend and we both thought of that song when we read the book.

most likely he got ideas from it.. but didnt necessarily mean to.

thats what i think... i think.

yeah i'm almost finished reading it and i completely agree. i can see how that would influence the song. i don't kno if it did as i don't recall Ryan mentioning it but the book does remind me of it.

I've never thought about it like that, you may be on to something. I really liked the book though, It's one of my favorite Palahniuks, because, after all, aren't we really all just trying to rebuild our castles?

Circuslove: 'Raindrops on Roses' is from Fight Club. It's in a haiku that the narrator wrote. I thought I was the only one that realized it because most people instantly associate that with The Sound of Music.

I think Choke might have been an influence. Sort of a subconscious thing. Like I do after I finish reading and I have to write something.

ahh i need to read choke, its next on my 'to read list' but i think that since there are a lot of palahnuik references that we see i think that certainly some of them were intentional [time to dance = invisible monsters and "the weather today..=diary] but i think that the majority of them were probably unintentional or subcontious.
also. palahnuiks style of writing reminds be of poetry. the quick short to the point phrases, and poetry is basically what lyrics are so a lot of the things in his books translate well in music/lyrics
