yea, i'm very much aware this section is all about books. hah BUT...
i am always interested in what other people are reading or read recently..so this is just a place to come and write the name and author of a book and you may write a summary or if you like it/don't like it, also..just to give some people ideas on books to possibly check out!! if a bunch of people have read a book you have, then by all means, go and start a new thread to discuss the book..but this is just to throw out ideas really.... and it's non-official..so if you have an idea for a 'bookclub book' then post it in that thread!! okay, i'm done.... ~~~~~~~~~ You don't need to be a heroin addict or a performance poet to experience extremity. Great idea for a thread.
I'm currently working on about three books at once, since I'm horrendously unfocused: - King, Queen, Knave by Vladamir Nabokov (author of Lolita) ...this book is fucked up but a good read. Stay away if you find anything that might be slightly incestuous sickening. - You Grow Girl: The Groundbreaking Guide to Gardening by Gayla Trail Good creative guide to gardening, written for a younger more imaginative audience - The Game: Penetrating The Secret Society of Pickup Artists by Neil Strauss This book is incredible. It's written as a journalistic investigation, and manages to both be instructive, insightful, and extensive in its subject investigation. I adore it. Plus now it's very easy to identify if someone is trying to pick me up using these techniques. - Field Guide to the Night Sky by the National Audubon Society Normally I'm buried in light pollution, what with living in the San Francisco Bay Area....but recently I've been staying in the mountains and the stars are amazing. So I'm rereading this. I'm also thinking of picking up a Terry Pratchett book if I end up finishing the Nabokov novel before the next book club book is decided on. |

i just finished one flew over the cuckoo's nest. it was really good.
and i started the prince and the pauper but i havent had the time to make it past the first 20 pages. and then i have the princess bride (i never saw the movie but everyone raves about it) and lullaby from the library and son of a witch from my best friend. then its time to get more books. "the bookclub. we go there." "People who claim that they’re evil are usually no worse than the rest of us. thanks. i'm glad you like the thread!
well, what i'm currently reading is: Sex,Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs-chuck klosterman: it's good so far..i heard it was really funny, and i do find it humoruous. i think if you are more knowledgable on what he's talking about, you'd like it more. such as, i don't play the simes, or watch the real world, etc. but it's okay! thennnn, i'm going to be reading: High Fidelity-nick hornby: just getting through more of his books. good author and it looks good. never seen the film..not yet at least!! Hey nostradamus!-douglas coupland: i've heard he's a good author and it looked good, so i'm excited!! ~~~~~~~~~ You don't need to be a heroin addict or a performance poet to experience extremity. Haha Lauren, I am reading High Fidelity at the moment, and I'm really enjoying it. The only other book I have read by him is A Long Way Down and I'm definitely enjoying this more!
And I know I seem to say this a lot, but Stephanie, you should watch the Princess Bride, it's a really good film |

I'm currently reading Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maguire. Very interesting so far. Stephanie - Ooh, I LOVE The Princess Bride! I saw the movie before I read the book because I didn't know there was a book (lol) but now I have read it about 5 times. I LOVE that book =) Victoria |

i wasnt really impressed with nick hornby when i read a long way down. maybe i should read something else by him. "the bookclub. we go there." Stephanie: You'll have to keep us updated on what you think of The Princess Bride. I personally like the movie a lot -- and when I was in highschool all of my close guy friends had the entire movies' dialogue memorized. Funny story, none of them turned out to be gay. /shrug
Dreaming Alone: Have you ever read any other Shakespearean plays all the way through? What do you think of the Tempest so far? As for the folk reading High Fidelity, I can't say that I was too impressed with the movie...I couldn't even sit through it without getting distracted. Have any of you liked the book but not the movie? Or is it a 'don't like one, won't like the other' sort of thing? |
