Ok, so I'm done with the book... Whoa. Now's when I can confess that the four words I accidently read when I started the book were: Adora was found guilty. So yeah, it did give some parts away, but obviously not all.

I was not surprised that Amma killed the girls. I was surprised she was gonna let Adora take the fall for it. But of course she's too crazy for that and had to kill that other girl. Aaaaa caught you now!

Poor Camille, all that crazy. Even though a lot of stuff got resolved. I'm sure in her heart and mind it will never be resolved.

Stupid prick Richard. I ended up really not liking him. That comment he made saying "has anyone ever told you that you're over sensitive" (or something like that sorry I don't have the book any more). And she says "no never." Sums it up perfectly.

Ewww Amma used the teeth for the doll house floor of her mom's room. Oh and the hair as a rug. Psycho.

I was so sad when Camille was gonna start cutting again... and on her face this time. Thank goodness for her boss and his wife, taking her in. Finally a family. People to care for her and take care of her. Something she's needed all her life.

Oh and I thought it was wierd when Camille took Amma back home with her and tried to raise her. WTF happened to Alan? Big pussy. Anyway, it was cool of Camille to reach out to Amma and try to help her.

Great book! I'd definately recommend it.

Yep, it didn't give away it all. It was a bit of a shock to find out about Amma, b/c I really thought it was all the mom..but it wasn't like "I WOULD NEVER HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT!!" because we all know Amma is a little on the crazy side if you know what I mean.

But yeah, Amma is crazy. I don't think she had too much true affection for Adora, so it makes sense that she would just let her take all the blame.

I feel bad for her though, because she killed these girls because she felt her mom liked Ann and Natalie more and then the last girl (forget the name) and Camille hung out a lot. It's a crazy jealousy..but it's really sad. She's so young.

The teeth and hair was freakily disturbing. That was really creepy to read. It's just a "no way!" kind of moment. Very good idea on the author's part for sure.

I know!! Richard made me so mad. She just left her. Ugh! stupid men!

I'm glad she had her boss and his wife to help her. They really did give her a family, and she's needed that her whole life. I think giving her that is the main thing she really needed to heal all along. She couldn't fully get better until she had love and care such as the kind Curry and his wife gave her.

I suppose they just think she'd be safer away from her mom and the town and with someone who is away from it all, which the closes thing to that would be Camille.

It was sad when Camille started wondering if she was like her mom, b/c she liked to care for Amma when she was sick. So so sad. I'd probably think the same, and it would just be an awful feeling, you know?

I'd recommend it too. One of my favorite book club books in awhile. Lynn, you picked quite a winner!!!
Seriously. It was amazing and something different then I normally read, which is what I love about this book club. I get new ideas for things to read. So awesome!!!

karina: ooh camping sounds cool.

denise: you know how hard it was not to tell you that? amma didn't care about anyone but herself. not that it's really a surprise the way she was raised. it's not like adora is little miss innocent anyway. i didn't like richard either. it pissed me off that after all of that when he could see how hurt she was at the end he didn't even try to stay in touch-makes it look like he was just using her. i never would have thought of it on my own but in that conversation he practically admitted that at first that was all he was doing. very uncool.

lauren: the sickest part was that adora didn't even like the other girls-she was just trying to prove...something. i don't remember at the moment. but that one girl bit her. that's why i liked curry so much.

seriously lynn, nice pick!

hmm i was flipping through the book to see if i had anything else to add and i noticed this part that amma said-about how she was friends with the girls at first and they had fun and hurt things together (and then adora took them away). so we already knew that the girls weren't all peaches and sunshine but wow, that's a huge red flag that the kid isn't quite right.

And, I'm working on catching up...still, and very badly.

Karina: Oh, well, I hope you can join us for the next book too!

xxpatdxx: Same too- hope you join in the next book!

Denise: Oh, those four words. Yeah, they did give a teeny bit away. Oh, Amma letting her mother take the blame for it was kind of sick. Amma is sick and psycho- with the teeth and the hair, kind of like little trophies of what she had done.

Lauren: True. Amma didn't really care for her mother, which would be why she didn't feel anything when she let her mother take the blame. Super crazy jealousy, and I don't want to think of what might happen when Amma gets jealous in the future. Curry and his wife are awesome for supporting her, definitely agree. You're welcome!

Stephanie: Thanks! Yeah. Andora taking her friends away from her like that is kind of creepy, and a sign that something is kind of wrong.

(I'll see what else to add later)

Karina: well, i'm glad. And I just think Amma is mentally disturbed really.

Stephanie: yeah, I loved Curry. He was a good guy.
I don't remember what Adora was trying to prove either, but I think it had something to do with wanting to change them..anyone remember?

Oh, I remember that now! Yeah, Ann and Natalie weren't the best kinds of girls, but Amma is just..wow.

Lynn: Big Grin yep yep, good book.
Yeah, super jealous. It's horrible, but I just feel so bad for her. I mean, really, she's just 13!! It's so sad.

karina: I mean, I just think she has a mental problem..anyone that kills anyone else, has some kind of mental problem. You don't just decide to go and kill someone....so yeah, i feel really bad for Amma. What made her turn out the way she did? It's awful.

Karina and Lauren - I think that Amma was sooo sick she didn't even know it was wrong to kill those girls. You know, she didn't have understanding of what's right and what's wrong because of all the things her mother did. She didn't show any remorse or feel guilty about it. I was kinda surprised to read that she would be out of prison at age 18. (if I remember correctly) She's no business being released after killing 3 people like that.

Lynn - Yes yes, very good pick!!!

Oh and did I mention how sad I felt when Camille was giving in. She was letting her mother poison her and she made some comment about how nice it was to be taken care of or something. It's like she was slipping away, reality was out of her reach.

Steph - yay for keeping the secret! you did a great job. *wink* richard = dick

Denise: Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I agree with you. Adora pretty much did whatever she felt like, and Amma learned by example. One messed up family she grew up in.
She is being released at 18? I don't even remember reading about that, but wow, she should definitely not be released then. She needs pysichiatric help for one, and who is to say she won't go out and kill someone else?

That was sad about Camille. I think being back home just made her change completely. It was horrible to see her sinking further and further, even as she learned more and more of the truth, such as her mom and what she did to Marian.

Did anyone else's book have a bunch of points of discussion in the back? Might be interesting to talk about.

Anyway, I'll post them in the general discussion if anyone wants to discuss them?
