He is a 15 year old boy who live in Miami Florida. his "friends" stole his dad's bike and he found out and got the bike back and told on the group of boys (who were all 15 except one 13 year old) and the group found out and took Michael and poured rubbing alcohol on him and set him on fire his lungs are not working right and had burns just about everywhere. The group of 15 year old are in jail for 5 - 10 years for attempted murder and if Michael lives the 13 year old is off the hook (i think) and if he does not he has bad punishments. And he is in the hosptial right now.

Many terrible things happen in the world. I don't understand how this story is different. Did you know this boy?

I personally think this is an important topic. It was all over the news, do you watch it?

So, you're saying that the open letters thread, for example, is more important than a boy being lit on fire? Even if the boys who did the crime only get 5-10 years of prison?

To me, personally, it wins importance.

Yes, actually I watch the news at lease twice daily. And I have seen nothing on this topic.

I just don't understand what we would discuss. We all obviously agree it's a mortifying thing to do to another human being, but there are hundreds if equally dreadful things that could be made into a thread.

How about this: every time I learn of a murder I will post a thread for it.

Or this: every time I see a sad commercial, like the ones for the ASPCA, I will make a thread about it.


There are so many sad things and half of us are already depressed because of the economy, family, friends, health, school, ect. What's the point in making us even more depressed and sad?

okay guys i see what youre saying. when i was reading through the first post, i kept waiting to see how this was related, or what she was going to say about it that actually had to do with anything. however, i dont think there is a need to say that it should never have been posted, or at least imply that.

i understand your point to post every murder or sad thing of this sort. if this was just any other routine story, i would say the same response. however, this is one of the most discussed stories, and many people hold an interest in the kid and his progress. in my area, it is constantly being talked about. i think that maybe a thread wasnt NECCESARY, but if she wanted to say it then its just as appropriate as any other thread in here.

now, if somebody made a thread about any old news story that has absolutely no significance, and there were many of them, then it would be a different story....

hahah i just saw everybody posting all of these things and they didnt know if they agreed or disagreed and basically everybody had the same thoughts but said them differently and it was a huge mess. so i think i covered it all decently there lol
