OR A vice-president (or someone further down the "replacement" line) can become president in the middle of his/her running-mate's term as president. Then, the aforementioned VP-turned President can be president for two additional terms. -but- we're talking about VOTING in obama, he is not running for VP, he is running for the office of President of the United States of America. You also don't run for VP under the idea that 2 years and a day into the term *something* will happen to the president and you will serve 10 years. The likelylihood of this happening is near zero |

And, actually, since you make such an interesting point: If either main-party candidate wins the election (Obama or McCain), the likelihood of the Vice-President becoming President is actually higher than most years. If Obama wins, he'll most likely be assassinated by psychotic racists.
